Objectives
- To provide students with a wide range of learning experiences to develop and enhance their English literacy and proficiency.
- To give students opportunities for personal and intellectual development, and extend their knowledge and experiences of other cultures through the English medium.
- To help students prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology, including the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.
Characteristics
- Big book approach is introduced to Primary 1 students to arouse their interest in reading whereas textbooks are used to teach English in Primary 2-6 so that students can develop reading skills through various text types/genres, build thematic vocabulary and understanding.
- Both NET and local English teacher co-teach the P.1 curriculum to provide authentic learning environment.
- Fun Reading Programme is arranged once a cycle to motivate learning to read and reading to learn.
- Language arts is highly promoted through our Primary 1-2 musical workshops and drama lessons in Primary 4. Students are given opportunities to perform on stage and share their learning outcomes with others.
- One of our enrichment programmes, Cambridge English Workshop, is organized in the afternoon. Students are divided into different levels (Starters, Movers and Flyers) according to their English proficiency. Also, they are encouraged to take the Cambridge English Young Learners Examinations.
- School-based self-learning materials, like Picture dictionary and Phonics booklet, are designed for students in order to give them more support in learning English.
